Installing the SecureW2 (eduroam) Certificate on your macOS Device

SecureW2 is the system Bates College uses to securely configure your macOS device to connect to eduroam, Bates' Wi-Fi network. During setup, SecureW2 automatically applies the necessary Wi-Fi settings and installs a security certificate associated with your Bates account.

Think of this certificate as a digital ID card that allows your macOS device to securely connect to eduroam without requiring you to enter your Bates username and password each time.

Once setup is complete, your macOS device will automatically connect to eduroam whenever you're on campus or visiting another participating institution or location that offers the eduroam Wi-Fi network.

Step 1:

  • On Campus
    • Connect to BatesConnect Wi-Fi.
  • Off Campus
    • Connect to any Internet connection.

Step 2:

  • Open a web browser (Safari or Google Chrome is recommended) and go to wifi.bates.edu. Click Connect to eduroam.

Step 3:

  • The SecureW2 setup page will automatically detect that you're using a macOS device.
    • If your operating system isn't detected automatically, click the Select your device drop-down menu and select macOS.
  • Click JoinNow to download the WiFi_Bates_College_Wrapper.dmg file.

Step 4:

  • A message will appear indicating that the WiFi_Bates_College_Wrapper.dmg file is being downloaded to your browser's default Downloads location.

  • Locate the WiFi_Bates_College_Wrapper.dmg file in your Downloads folder.
  • Double-click the file to open it.

Step 5:

  • Double-click the SecureW2 WiFi_Bates_College_Wrapper.app to begin the installation.

Step 6A:

  • When the message "WiFi_Bates_College_Wrapper" is an app downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? appears, click Open to continue the installation.

Step 6B:

  • If prompted with the message: Allow "WiFi_Bates_College_Wrapper" to find devices on local networks?, click Allow to continue.

Step 7:

  • Click Next to proceed to the Bates sign-in screen, where you'll enter your Bates username and password.

Step 8:

  • When the Bates sign-in page appears:
    • Enter ​​​​​​your Bates username, then click Go.

  • Enter your Bates password, then click Go.

  • If prompted, approve the Duo authentication request to verify your identity and continue.

Step 9:

  • Click Next to continue installing the configuration profile in your macOS device's System Preferences.

Step 10:

  • When the Profile Downloaded message appears, click OK to continue.

Step 11:

  • On the Device Management window, double-click Bates College eduroam to review the Profile.

Step 12:

  • Click Install...

Step 13:

  • Click Install when prompted with the following message: Are you sure you want to install profile "Bates College eduroam.

Step 14:

  • Use Touch ID or click Use Password when prompted with the following message: Allow administrator access for "Device Management/MDM.

  • If you choose to authenticate using your username and password:
    • Enter the username and password you use to sign in to your macOS device, then click Allow Access.

Step 15:

  • Note: You will see the following message if you were off campus or if you were not connected to BatesConnect Wi-Fi.
    • Click Continue once the profile is installed.

Step 16:

  • Click Done to complete the process.

  • You have successfully installed the SecureW2 eduroam certificate. 👍🏼
