Bates College Student Government Recognized Clubs
If the Bates Google Workspace Group you are requesting is for a Bates College Student Government (BCSG) Recognized Club or is currently in the application process to become a BCSG Recognized Club, please visit the BCSG-Recognized Student Clubs webpage for additional information. BCSG Recognized Clubs use Bates Engage for communication with club members and are not permitted to have a Bates Google Workspace Group, except in very specific circumstances, and at the discretion of Campus Life.
Note: Please do not request the creation of a Bates Google Workspace Group for your club or student group through the Bates College IT Service Desk.
Student Groups or Non-Recognized Bates College Student Government Clubs
If you are interested in having a Bates Google Workspace Group created for your Non-Recognized Bates College Student Government Club or Student Group, you must seek a Faculty or Staff Member to sponsor your Bates Google Workspace Group for your club or student group. Your Bates Google Workspace Group Sponsor may make a request by emailing the IT Service Desk at helpdesk@bates.edu, or they may submit an online request.
When requesting the creation of a Bates Google Workspace Group, please have your sponsor provide the following information:
- Name of Faculty or Staff Sponsor.
- They will be the Bates Google Workspace Group Owner.
- Name of the Bates College Student who is requesting the Bates Google Workspace Group.
- They will be made a Manager for the Bates Google Workspace Group.
- The requested name of the Bates Google Workspace Group.
- This will be the formal Bates Google Workspace Group name.
- A description of the Bates Google Workspace Group (optional)
- The proposed Bates Google Workspace Group email address - xxxxxxx@groups.bates.edu.
- Will the Bates Google Workspace Group be an Open or Closed group?
- With an Open Bates Google Workspace Group, anyone with an @bates.edu email address can join.
- With a Closed Bates Google Workspace Group, anyone interested in joining the group must request membership, or Owners/Managers can manually add individuals to the membership list.
- Will incoming messages be moderated?
- When your Bates Google Workspace Group receives a message, the message must first be reviewed by a group Owner/Manager, who can then release the message to the Group Members.
- Will the Bates Google Workspace Group be Announce Only or Collaborative?
- With an Announce Only Group, Members can only receive messages and cannot reply.
- What a Collaborative Group, Members can send, receive, and reply to messages.
- When a member replies to a group message, who should receive the reply?
- The Bates Google Workspace Group, where all Members will receive a copy of the reply.
- Only to the message author (recommended).
