Note: This update may take up to 45 minutes to complete.
Your Dell laptop may require a BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) update to resolve issues that could impact its performance. The BIOS is the first software that runs when you turn on your laptop. It checks whether essential hardware components - such as the keyboard, memory, and hard drive - are functioning properly. Then, it locates and loads the operating system, allowing your laptop to start up. Without the BIOS, your laptop wouldn’t be able to boot or operate.
A known issue has been identified in certain Dell laptop models (Latitude 5450 and Latitude 5550's) that may cause them to become non-functional if a BIOS update is not performed.
Step 1:
- Type Dell Command Update in the Search box, located next to the Start button.


Step 2:
- Once Dell Command Update has opened, click on the CHECK button.

- Dell Command Update will now check for available updates.

Step 3:
- Once Dell Command Update has completed its scan, select all of the available updates.
- Place a checkmark in the check box next to Automatically restart the system (when required).
- Click on the INSTALL button.

- Dell Command Update will now complete the installation process.

Step 4:
- A reboot will be required once Dell Command Update has installed its updates.


Step 5:
- During the reboot stage, the BIOS update will be performed.

Step 6:
- You will see the Microsoft Windows Sign In window, indicating the BIOS updates have been completed.
- You may now continue to use your laptop.
