Bates College offers three WiFi networks for individuals on campus. Bates Open is for guests and devices like gaming consoles and smart devices. Bates Secure is the primary network for faculty, staff, and students, providing full WPA2 encryption. Eduroam allows Bates faculty, staff, and students to connect to WiFi at participating institutions worldwide using their Bates credentials, while visitors from those institutions can access the internet using their own credentials.
Bates College provides free or discounted software for faculty, staff, and students, including ArcGIS, ChemDraw, JMP, MATLAB, Microsoft Office 365, SensusAccess, Read & Write, Wolfram Alpha Pro, Zoom, and Zotero. Some software is available for personal devices, while others are restricted to Bates-owned machines. Most licenses expire around July 1 and renew automatically, though some may require assistance. Faculty and staff can use the Bates VPN for off-campus access on Bates-owned machines.
