Bates College offers access to 3 Wireless (WiFi) Networks for individuals to choose from when on campus.
Bates Secure – Bates Secure is the primary WiFi Network for Bates Faculty, Staff, and Students and offers full WPA2 encryption.
Bates Open – The Bates Open WiFi Network is available for guests of the college. Bates Open is also used for connecting gaming consoles, Apple TVs, Smart Devices, etc.
Eduroam – Bates Faculty, Staff, and Students visiting institutions in the US and around the world may connect to the Eduroam WiFi Network at participating institutions using their Bates College Username and Password. In turn, visitors to Bates from participating schools may access the Internet with the credentials provided by their home institutions.
macOS:
- Click on the wireless signal strength icon on the Apple Menu Bar, located along the upper right of your screen
- Select Bates Secure
- You will be presented with a dialog box. Enter your Bates Username (not your email address) and Password
Click the Join button and accept/Trust the Certificate
iOS Devices:
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi
- Tap on Bates Secure
- Type in your Bates Username (not your email address) and Password
- You may receive a message about a Trust Certificate. Tap on Trust to continue
Windows 10/11:
- Click on the wireless signal strength icon in the system tray located on the lower right of your screen
- Select Bates Secure
- You will be presented with a dialog box. Enter your Bates Username (not your email address) and Password
- Click the Submit button and accept/Trust the Certificate
Android:
- Tap on Apps/Wireless & Networks/WiFi
- Select Bates Secure
- EAP Method – PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication – None
- CA Certificate – Do not validate
- Domain – bates.edu
- Identify – Enter your Bates Username (do not include the @bates.edu)
- Anonymous Identify – Enter your Bates Username (not your email address)
- Password – Enter your Bates Password
- Accept the defaults in all other fields.
- Proceed with connecting to Bates Secure WiFi.
